The Wedding - Getting Ready

Maggie May: The Wedding - Getting Ready

When the day finally came, I could hardly believe it.

After all these months of planning and excitement, it was here - our wedding day!

We'd spent the week leading up to it in a bit of a mad panic {I think that happens with all weddings...}, but things started to slow down once it got to the Friday afternoon. Mama Maggie May and I went to get our nails done - we realised it was the longest we'd sat down for about 4 days - and then our family and friends started arriving, ready for the next day's festivities!

That evening, we met a few of Mr MM's siblings at the local pub with our parents and a few friends, for 'the last supper' before we became husband and wife. The landlord treated us to a bottle of prosecco, and we excitedly clinked our glasses in anticipation of what was to come.

After a final toast, I set off down the road with my parents and sister-in-law to be, ready for an early night in my childhood bedroom, while Mr MM was staying a few doors down at my parents' friends' house with his best man {aka his brother} and parents. We coyly kissed each other night, whispering that the next time we'd see each other would be at the altar.

Surprisingly {and embarrassingly} I slept extremely well that night - who'd have thought it? My poor sis-in-law seemed to take on any subliminal last-minute wedding nerves I had, and tossed and turned throughout, whilst I slept like a log. Whoops. I honestly thought I'd be wide awake all night, counting down the seconds, but I think I must have been so exhausted from the preparations that I was glad for a good night's sleep!

So well did I snooze in fact, that I needed a nudge in the morning to wake me up, and a reminder that it was in fact my wedding day...  I sheepishly stumbled downstairs for a coffee, to find that Mama Maggie May had decorated the kitchen while I snored.

After a quick caffeine fix and a hop in the shower, it wasn't long before my hair stylist and make up artist arrived; I'd had a trial with Helen from Bigwigs a few weeks beforehand, and was really looking forward to seeing what she'd do on the day.

I was so over the moon with the end result, and my hair honestly exceeded all the expectations I'd had. To me it was perfect, and exactly how I dreamed it would be.

Without realising it, time was running away from us, and we needed to get me into my dress, pronto! {So easily done, brides-to-be - it happens to the most organised of us!}

My Sassi Holford dress was such an important and special part of the day for me, and I'm going to be dedicating a separate post to it - but here's your first look!

One final spritz of perfume {ChloƩ, always}, some careful positioning of my veil and lace comb, and I was ready to go.

My cathedral length veil was from The Couture Veil {also designed by Sassi Holford}, and the team very kindly customised it for me so that the lace trim matched the lace of my dress, with a hint of sparkle on the edging too. I loved the waterfall effect, and it really was the final touch. My beautiful lace comb was also from Sassi.

Didn't Mama Maggie May look amazing? She pulled out all the stops and truly dazzled in an LK Bennett silk gown, with a Phase Eight hat and clutch. I know I'm biased because she's my mum, but she was the most stunning Mother of the Bride.

Apart from my groom, there was still one very important person who was yet to see me.

The Father of the Bride.

Having my Daddy walk me down the aisle was one of the highlights of the whole day, as well as having Mama Maggie May with me until the last minute. I'm so lucky to have such wonderful parents, and to have such a close relationship with them both.
